A Portion of that Which Was Once Everything
“A Portion of That Which Was Once Everything” is a meditation on the catastrophic nature and creative potential of disaster, (dis-astre), which literally signifies losing the stars. Conceived in 2018, this is an ongoing project with various manifestations, including outdoor installations, gallery exhibitions, and events that involve the creation of new work with the participation of the public. The project includes images, sculptures, research artifacts, collaborations with authors, and intergenerational mentorships.
Conceived as an ongoing cycle of work, chapters of the project have been exhibited at Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie (Quebec), the Campbell River Art Gallery (Canada), the Museo Novecento (Naples, Italy), and the Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove di Metropoliz, (Rome, Italy).
“Together these photographs can be said to speak to the bones of the medium itself – individual records of light and time, that each call upon the viewer to consider that which lies beyond the limits of observation… ” – Excerpt from the exhibition text by Vicky Chainey Gagnon
